Custom 10–21 day private expeditions · All-inclusive · From USD 2,200/day

Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One Epic Voyage.

Komodo National Park and Raja Ampat are two of the world’s most extraordinary marine destinations — and sailing between them by private yacht is one of the greatest ocean adventures on Earth. This 1,400-kilometre passage through the heart of the Coral Triangle takes you through largely unexplored Indonesian waters, remote fishing villages, active volcanoes, and dive sites that have never seen a tourist boat.

Raja Ampat, in West Papua, contains more fish species than anywhere on the planet — scientists have documented over 1,500 species of fish and 600 species of coral in its waters. Combined with Komodo’s famous dragon encounters, pink sand beaches, and world-class drift diving, the Komodo-to-Raja Ampat voyage is considered the pinnacle of Indonesian sailing expeditions.

Frequently Asked Questions — Komodo to Raja Ampat

How long does a Komodo to Raja Ampat yacht trip take?

A Komodo to Raja Ampat yacht expedition typically takes 12–21 days depending on stops and pace. The direct sailing distance is approximately 1,400 km (750 nautical miles). A fast motor yacht covers this in 10–12 days with focused sailing. A traditional phinisi with more island stops and diving typically takes 16–21 days. Most guests choose a 14-day itinerary as the ideal balance between pace and exploration.

What is the cost of a Komodo to Raja Ampat yacht expedition?

A Komodo to Raja Ampat yacht expedition costs from USD 2,200 per day for the vessel (all-inclusive). A 14-day expedition therefore starts from approximately USD 31,000 total, or USD 2,200–3,100 per person for a group of 10–14. This includes all meals, diving, park entry fees for both Komodo and Raja Ampat, fuel, crew, and a dedicated dive guide. One-way charters ending in Sorong, West Papua are available, with guests flying home from there.

What permits are needed for Raja Ampat?

Raja Ampat requires a Marine Entry Permit (currently USD 40–50/person for international visitors, valid 1 year) plus daily village contribution fees for specific sites. We handle all permit arrangements in advance. Komodo National Park permits are also included. There are no unpleasant surprises at park gates — all fees are included in your charter quote.

When is the best time for a Komodo to Raja Ampat expedition?

The best time for a Komodo–Raja Ampat expedition is October to April, when winds favor the eastward passage and Raja Ampat’s diving conditions peak (October–April is Raja Ampat’s dry season). The transition months of September and May also work well. We advise against June–August for the full expedition as the southeast monsoon creates challenging open-ocean conditions between Sumbawa and Maluku.

Can I start in Raja Ampat and end in Komodo?

Yes — the route works in both directions. Departing from Sorong (Raja Ampat gateway) and ending in Labuan Bajo is equally popular. The westward passage is actually favored during the northwest monsoon season (October–March) as winds and currents align for easier sailing. We plan your route based on the time of year and your preferred start/end cities.
