QUICK ANSWER

A Komodo diving liveaboard is a yacht-based diving expedition through the premier dive sites of Komodo National Park. Divers enjoy 3–4 dives per day at sites like Batu Bolong, Crystal Rock, Castle Rock, and Manta Point — rated among the top 10 diving destinations worldwide. Our private liveaboard charters include certified dive masters, full equipment, nitrox, and luxury accommodation. Trips range from 3 to 10 days, starting at $3,000/day.

Why Komodo Is a World-Class Diving Destination

Komodo National Park sits at the epicenter of the Coral Triangle — the global center of marine biodiversity. The convergence of warm water from the Pacific and nutrient-rich upwellings from the Indian Ocean creates underwater conditions found nowhere else on Earth. More than 1,000 species of fish, 260 species of coral, and spectacular megafauna including manta rays, sharks, dolphins, and sea turtles inhabit these waters.

The park contains over 40 named dive sites, ranging from gentle coral gardens suitable for beginners to powerful current-swept walls and pinnacles that challenge even experienced divers. Visibility ranges from 15 to 30+ meters during the dry season, and water temperatures hover between 26–29°C — comfortable for extended dives without thick wetsuits.

A diving liveaboard is the optimal way to experience Komodo’s underwater world. Shore-based day trips limit you to 1–2 dive sites per day and require long surface intervals during transit. A liveaboard anchors directly at dive sites, enabling early morning dives, night dives, and access to remote sites that day boats cannot reach.

Premier Dive Sites on Your Liveaboard

Batu Bolong

Considered one of the best dive sites in the world. A small rock pinnacle surrounded by massive schools of fish, reef sharks, giant trevally, and Napoleon wrasse. Strong currents create an underwater spectacle unlike anything else.

Crystal Rock

A submerged pinnacle covered in vibrant soft corals, sea fans, and sponges. Frequent encounters with reef sharks, eagle rays, and vast schools of fusiliers. Outstanding macro life including pygmy seahorses and nudibranchs.

Manta Point (Makassar Reef)

One of the most reliable manta ray encounter sites in the world. Giant oceanic mantas with wingspans up to 7 meters visit cleaning stations on the reef. Snorkelers and divers share this magical experience.

Castle Rock — An advanced current dive with massive pelagic action. Grey reef sharks, whitetip sharks, giant trevally, and enormous schools of surgeonfish create a wall of movement. One of Komodo’s most exhilarating dives.

Shotgun — A thrilling drift dive through a narrow channel, propelled by the current past walls covered in soft coral and populated by reef sharks, turtles, and schooling barracuda.

Cauldron (The Washing Machine) — A unique dive experience where powerful currents create swirling vortexes. Experienced divers are rewarded with encounters with manta rays, sharks, and dense fish aggregations.

Tatawa Besar — A beautiful coral garden perfect for all levels. Stunning reef formations, sea turtles, cuttlefish, and prolific macro life. An ideal site for underwater photography.

Private Liveaboard vs Shared Liveaboard

Most diving liveaboards in Komodo sell individual cabins on shared vessels with fixed departure dates and itineraries. Our private dive liveaboard charters offer an entirely different experience — the yacht is exclusively yours, your dive schedule is fully flexible, your itinerary adapts to conditions and your interests, and you dive with only your group and our dive master. This means no crowded dive sites, no waiting for other divers, and the freedom to spend extra time at your favorite spots.

What’s Included

Every dive liveaboard charter includes: private yacht with full crew, PADI-certified dive master(s), complete dive equipment (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, mask), unlimited nitrox (on select vessels), dive computer rental, surface marker buoys, underwater camera rinse stations, three gourmet meals daily plus snacks, all soft drinks and water, national park entry fees, island excursions between dives, and airport transfers.

Certification courses are available for non-certified divers traveling with diving groups. Our Komodo diving page has full details on dive sites, conditions, and certification requirements.

Diving Liveaboard FAQ

What certification level do I need for Komodo diving?

PADI Open Water or equivalent is sufficient for many Komodo dive sites. However, Advanced Open Water certification is recommended for sites like Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, and Cauldron which involve currents and deeper profiles. We can arrange PADI courses aboard our liveaboard if needed.

When is the best time for diving in Komodo?

April through November offers the best diving conditions with 20–30m visibility, calm seas, and comfortable water temperatures (27–29°C). Manta ray encounters peak from December to February when plankton-rich waters attract them in large numbers. Each season offers different diving highlights.

Can non-divers join a diving liveaboard?

Absolutely. Our liveaboard trips cater to mixed groups of divers and non-divers. While divers explore underwater, non-divers can enjoy snorkeling (many sites have outstanding shallow reefs), island excursions, kayaking, beach time, and relaxation on the yacht. We ensure everyone has an incredible experience.
