Crystal Rock

A submerged pinnacle, and the visibility to see it.

Batu Kecil on the charts. A drift dive along a pinnacle where nutrient-rich current arrives and the fish arrive with it — often in visibility past thirty metres.

The short answer

What Crystal Rock actually is

Drift diving the pinnacle, with current bringing dense schooling fish. Season: May–September for best visibility, over 30 metres. Access: 2.5 hours from Labuan Bajo, near Gili Lawa. Allow One to two dives.

Why it is worth the stop

What makes it worth anchoring for

01

Visibility past thirty metres

May to September is when the water clears properly here, which is what separates it from the busier sites further south.

02

A drift, not a swim

You go in up-current and let it carry you along the pinnacle. Easier than it sounds, and far less work than fighting it.

03

Paired with Gili Lawa

Close enough to combine in a single day — dive in the morning, walk the ridge for sunset.

Park entrance and conservation fees are inside the charter rate and re-checked close to sailing — they move, and a stale figure becomes your problem at the gate.

Inside the rate

What the day rate already covers

  • Tender transfer from the yacht
  • Guide or ranger where the site requires one
  • Snorkelling and diving equipment
  • National park entrance and conservation fees
  • Water, shade and reef-safe sunscreen sent ashore
  • Timing planned around tide, light and the day boats

A private charter decides its own hours here. Day boats run to a fixed schedule; you do not, which is usually the difference between an empty site and a crowded one. Specific inclusions depend on the yacht selected, our charter desk will confirm the full list for your chosen vessel.

Before you commit

Four questions the desk gets weekly

Is it harder than Batu Bolong?

Different rather than harder. Crystal Rock is a drift; Batu Bolong is a wall with a slack-tide window. Both reward being honest about your experience.

When is visibility best?

May to September, regularly past 30 metres.

What will I see?

Giant trevally, white-tip reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, sweetlips and anthias in clouds thick enough to obscure the reef.

Can it be combined with other sites?

Yes — it sits near Gili Lawa, so a morning dive and a sunset ridge walk make a natural pairing.

Put it in the itinerary

Tell the desk which stops matter most and how many days you have. The route is built around them, and the written quote comes back the same day.
