Komodo Diving

Currents feed the reef. That is the whole story.

Batu Bolong at slack water, Crystal Rock on the drift, Castle Rock when the sharks are running. The same water that makes Komodo demanding is what packs it.

The short answer

What komodo diving actually involves

Batu Bolong, Crystal Rock, Castle Rock, Manta Point. Suits open water upward; advanced for the current sites. Season: April–November; December–February for the biggest manta aggregations. Equipment: full dive kit, compressor, rinse tanks and platform on the motor yachts.

What makes it work

Three things that decide it

01

Timing is the dive plan

Batu Bolong is dived at slack tide or not at all. The crew builds the day around the tide chart rather than the schedule.

02

Motor yacht for tank turnaround

Compressor, dive platform and rinse tanks are standard on the motor yachts. Phinisi gives you teak decks and an easier entry.

03

Advanced sites are named as such

Castle Rock and the Sape Strait are current dives. Tell the desk your certification and logged dives — the plan is built to it, not around it.

Inside the rate

What the day rate already covers

  • Fully crewed private charter
  • All meals and beverages
  • Specialist guide where the activity needs one
  • Equipment listed above
  • Komodo National Park permits
  • Timing planned around tide, light and the day boats

A private charter sets its own hours. Day boats run to a fixed schedule; you do not — which is usually the difference between doing this well and doing it in a queue. Specific inclusions depend on the yacht selected, our charter desk will confirm the full list for your chosen vessel.

Before you commit

Four questions the desk gets weekly

What certification do I need?

Open water covers most of the park at slack tide. Castle Rock and the Sape Strait are advanced current sites — be straight with the desk about your logbook.

How many dives a day?

Three to four on a dedicated dive charter, with surface intervals built in rather than squeezed.

Phinisi or motor yacht?

Motor yachts carry the compressor, platform and rinse tanks, so turnaround is faster and Nitrox is available. Phinisi is the better boat to be on between dives.

When is visibility best?

May to September at the northern sites, regularly past 30 metres. Mantas peak December to February.

Build it into the charter

Tell the desk this is the priority and how many days you have. The route is planned around it, and the written quote comes back the same day.
