Top 8 Komodo Dive Sites

Batu Bolong

ADVANCED 40m max / All year

Possibly the most biodiverse dive site in the world. A small rock pinnacle with walls covered in soft corals, 1,000+ fish species, napoleon wrasse, reef sharks, and regular manta ray fly-bys. Strong currents make this an advanced dive.

Manta Point

ALL LEVELS 20m max / Oct–Apr best

A natural cleaning station where oceanic manta rays gather to be cleaned by wrasse. Swimming with these 5-meter wingspan giants in crystal-clear water is a bucket-list experience. Generally a gentle drift dive.

Castle Rock

ADVANCED 35m max / All year

A seamount that rises from 40m to just 5m below the surface, completely covered in fish. Schools of fusiliers, trevally, barracuda and reef sharks swarm around this site. One of the top 10 dives in Asia.

Crystal Rock

INTERMEDIATE 30m max / All year

Twin pinnacles with exceptional coral coverage and visibility. Frequently visited by sea turtles, napoleon wrasse, and octopus. The shallow top is perfect for snorkelers while divers explore the deeper wall.

The Cauldron (Shotgun)

ADVANCED 25m max / When currents run

A narrow channel that floods with current, pulling divers through at speed in a thrilling drift dive. The walls are alive with gorgonian fans, soft corals, and the current attracts pelagic hunters.

Cannibal Rock

INTERMEDIATE 30m max / All year

Located near Horseshoe Bay on Rinca Island, Cannibal Rock is a macro photographer’s paradise. Pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs, frogfish, and flamboyant cuttlefish in extraordinary density.

Tatawa Besar

ALL LEVELS 25m max / All year

A long reef wall with excellent coral coverage and large schools of fish. A gentle current makes this suitable for newer divers, while the abundance of marine life rewards all experience levels.

Siaba Besar

ALL LEVELS 20m max / All year

A sea turtle sanctuary — this gentle reef is home to dozens of green sea turtles resting on the coral or cruising the shallows. Perfect for underwater photography and newer divers.

Komodo Diving FAQ

Q: What certification level do I need for Komodo diving?

A: Most Komodo dive sites are suitable for Open Water certified divers. However, several top sites (Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, The Cauldron) are Advanced Open Water or higher due to strong currents. We provide certified dive guides who assess conditions and adjust itineraries accordingly.

Q: Can non-divers join a diving charter?

A: Absolutely. Non-divers can snorkel at most sites while certified divers go deeper. Our liveaboard vessels have excellent snorkeling platforms and the surface scenery is also outstanding. Mixed dive/snorkel groups are welcome.

Q: What marine life can I expect to see?

A: Manta rays (year-round, peak Oct–Apr), reef sharks, wobbegong sharks, thresher sharks (Sape Strait), sea turtles, napoleon wrasse, barracuda, dolphin, dugong (rare), pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs, and thousands of tropical fish species.

Q: Is dive equipment provided?

A: We provide tanks, weights, and a certified dive guide with all charters. For full equipment (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, mask), rental is available at an additional charge. We recommend bringing your own mask and fins for comfort.
