Why Sail From Bali to Komodo?
Flying from Bali to Labuan Bajo takes 45 minutes. Sailing takes 7–12 days — and every single day is extraordinary. The Bali to Komodo yacht route is considered one of the finest sailing passages in Southeast Asia: you thread through the Lombok Strait, anchor off the Gili Islands at sunset, navigate the wild Sape Strait, and arrive at Komodo National Park after a journey that has already surpassed most holidays of a lifetime.
This is the journey for guests who understand that the passage itself is the destination. By the time you reach Komodo’s dragons and manta rays, you’ve already sailed through technicolor sunsets above Lombok, dived uninhabited reefs off Sumbawa, and watched stars from an anchorage where the only sound is the ocean. FAQ — Bali to Komodo Yacht Charter
How long does it take to sail from Bali to Komodo?
Sailing from Bali (Benoa Harbour) to Komodo (Labuan Bajo) takes 7–12 days depending on stops and vessel type. A fast motor yacht covering mainly open ocean can do it in 7 days. A traditional phinisi taking time to explore Lombok, Gili Islands, and Sumbawa takes 10–12 days. The route is approximately 500 nautical miles (930km). Most guests choose 10 days as the ideal balance between exploration and pace.
Where does a Bali to Komodo charter depart from?
Most Bali to Komodo yacht charters depart from Benoa Harbour in Bali’s south (near Nusa Dua), which is the main marina for private yacht departures. We can also arrange departure from Sanur or Serangan. We provide transfer from your Bali villa or hotel to the marina as part of the service.
Is the Bali to Komodo sailing route safe?
Yes — the Bali to Komodo route is a well-established sailing passage used year-round by experienced Indonesian captains. The safest months are April–November (dry season) when the Lombok Strait and Sape Strait are calmer. Our captains have 10–20 years on this specific route and know every sheltered anchorage. All vessels carry EPIRB beacons, VHF radio, and full safety equipment.
Can I fly to Bali and fly home from Labuan Bajo (one-way)?
Yes — one-way Bali-to-Labuan Bajo charters are very popular. You fly into Bali (DPS), board the yacht, and fly out from Labuan Bajo (LBJ) at the end of your trip. Labuan Bajo has direct flights to Bali (45 min), Jakarta, Lombok, and other Indonesian cities. This is actually our most booked route format as it’s the most logical travel itinerary.
